How to Make a Cane Bamboo Fishing Pole

Posted by Donnie On 10:20 AM No comments

A cane bamboo fishing pole is a great way to introduce children to the sport of fishing. A cane bamboo pole also represents a relaxing means of spending a summer afternoon on the bank of a river, stream or pond. Cane bamboo is used to fashion a fishing pole. A basic cane bamboo pole is made with a few simple components and is a fun project suitable for youth of different ages.

Instructions

    1

Purchase a length of cane bamboo from a home improvement, hardware or garden store. Choose a cane pole that is at least 6 feet long.

    2

Smooth rough areas and joints with a knife and sandpaper. Remove rough edges from the larger cut end where you will hold the rod.

    3

Cut a length of monofilament fishing line from a filler spool with a knife. Cut a length of line that is 2 1/2 times the length of the rod. Use, for example, line that is 15 feet long for a 6-foot pole. Choose line with a 10-pound-test rating at least.

    4

Place one end of the monofilament line even with the handle of the pole. Tape the line in place with electrical tape.

    5

Pull the line to the end of the pole. Wrap the line around the tip five times. Tape the line in place with electrical tape. Add additional wraps of tape every 2 feet along the length of the pole to hold the line in place.

    6

Tie a hook to the end of the line with a uni knot. Moisten the knot before pulling it tight against the eye of the hook.

    7

Attach a crimp-on weight 15 inches above the hook. Use a pair of pliers to crimp the weight in place if necessary.

    8

Attach a bobber float to the line above the weight. Press the button on top of the bobber float to extend the small hook on the bottom. Attach the bobber to the line with the hook and release the button to secure the bobber in place.
